Congratulating Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, UN Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez praised Sheikh Hasina for her leadership.
On Sunday (January 21) at noon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Hasan Mahmud met the UN Secretary General.
In the meeting, the UN Secretary General noted the importance of Bangladesh's role in reforming the structure of the global economy and also praised Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for championing several global processes led by the United Nations.
On behalf of the government and people of Bangladesh, Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud praised the brave and important role of the UN Secretary General in resolving the war in Gaza, Palestine. Besides, the minister requested Antonio Gutierrez to keep the Rohingya issue at the top of the agenda of the United Nations.
Referring to the golden jubilee year of Bangladesh's membership in the United Nations in 2024, Dr. Hasan Mahmood emphasized the need to celebrate it properly. He invited Secretary General Gutierrez to visit Bangladesh.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud also briefed the Secretary General about the country's national parliament elections. He said that a free, fair and peaceful election was held with the participation of the people.
Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Masood Bin Momen, Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations Muhammad A. Muhith, High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Kenya and Uganda Tarek Muhammad and others were present at this time.
