Mashrafe bin Mortaza elected from Narail-2 constituency has been appointed as the whip in the management of the 12th National Parliament. He will now get the status of state minister.

According to sources in the Parliament Secretariat, the gazette was published on Monday (January 22) afternoon.

The other four whips are - Abu Saeed Swapan. Iqbalur Rahim. Nazrul Islam Babu and Saimum Sarwar Kamal.

On January 10, on the oath day of parliamentarians, the government party informed that Noor-e Alam Chowdhury (Liton) will be retained as the Chief Whip.

According to the sources of the Parliament Secretariat, the files for the appointment of the Chief Whip and the Whips have been sent to the Prime Minister's Office. If there is consent, the President will appoint the whips. Notification will be issued later.

According to the 'Bangladesh (Whips) Order' of 1972, the President appoints him. According to the law, there will be a Chief Whip and six Whips in Parliament.

The Chief Whip has ministerial status and the whips have state ministerial status.
