The Speaker called upon the Deputy Commissioners to work for the people as servants

The Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury called on the Deputy Commissioners(DC) to work for the people, not as rulers, but as servants.

She said that the DCs can play an important role in developing skilled human resources based on knowledge and science.

She said these things during a courtesy call and exchange of views with DCs on the occasion of 'DCs Conference -2024' organized by the Cabinet Division at the Oath Room of the JS on Monday (March 4). The Chief Whip of Jatiya Sangsad and Member of Parliament Nur-e-Alam Chowdhury was present as a special guest at this time.

KM Abdus Salam, Senior Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat, delivered the welcome address on the occasion moderated by M, A, Kamal Billah, Additional Secretary of Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat and Private Secretary to the Speaker. In this conference, Cabinet Secretary Md. Mahbub Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Sheikh Russel Hasan and Divisional Commissioner of Khulna Helal Mahmud Sharif also spoke.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that the role of DCs is unique in creating a bridge between the people and the government. Under the guidance of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the DCs have faced the Corona crisis, and are working dedicatedly to implement the government's policies and development projects.

Referring to the constitution as the supreme law of the country, the Speaker said, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took steps to draft the constitution on the day after his return home. The JS makes laws and ensures accountability of the government.

She said, to ensure the transparency and accountability of the government to the people, the Prime Minister gave answers for thirty minutes in the question and answer session every Wednesday during the session. At this time, the Prime Minister can be asked direct questions, which are mainly asked by the opposition parties.

Appreciating the women officers as DCs, the Speaker said that they are performing their duties very efficiently, which is a matter of pride. She urged the DCs to face all the challenges by utilizing the demographic dividend through the young generation to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041.
