Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, I am not willing to accept that women cannot be given a chance. Economic emancipation of women is greatest. That is, if women are given economic security, they can do everything.
The Prime Minister said this at a discussion meeting and award giving function to celebrate International Women's Day at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium on Friday (March 8) at 10 am.
She said Awami League is the only political party which has ensured the equality of men and women. After independence, the Father of the Nation gave us a constitution, in that constitution he recognized the equal rights of men and women.
She also said that 10 percent quota has been fixed in the employment of women, so that women can get equal opportunities. We gave fewer women seats in Parliament so that women leadership could develop.
The Prime Minister said, we have already taken many steps. From the administration to the army, navy and air force, there was no opportunity for girls anywhere. We have been given that opportunity after taking responsibility. Women are playing the most responsible roles in UN peacekeeping missions. They are bringing the reputation of Bangladesh.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave Joyita awards to five distinguished women for their special contributions in various fields.
Those who received the honor - Anar Koli of Mymensingh, Kalyani Minji of Rajshahi, tea worker Kamali Rabidash of Sylhet, Jahanara Begum of Barguna and Pakhi Dutta Hijra of Khulna. Secretary of the Ministry of Women and Children Najma Mobarek was also present at the event under the chairmanship of the State Minister of the Ministry of Women and Children affairs Simin Hossain Rimi.
