JnU student's death: Accused proctor released, classmate expelled

Jagannath University (JnU) student Fairuz Avantika's suicide case accused proctor has been relieved of duty and classmate Amman Siddiqui has been temporarily expelled from the university. Also, a 5-member investigation committee has been formed for proper investigation of the incident.

Jagannath University Proctor Mr. Jahangir Hossain confirmed the matter to Barta24.com.

He said, we have learned the matter. The student named one of our Proctoral Team members as responsible for her death. The Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor gave verbal instructions to suspend him temporarily. Further action will be taken subject to investigation after the legal process.

He also said that the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Professor Dr. S. M. A Masum Billah led a 5-member committee has been formed with Himadri Shekhar, deputy registrar as member secretary. The members of the committee are the Dean of the Faculty of Science. Md. Shahjahan, chairman of the music department. Jhumur Ahmed, President of Job Teachers Association, Professor Zakir Hossain of Marketing Department.

It is to be noted that the deceased student Fairuz Avantika is a student of the 2017-18 academic year of Law Department of Jagannath University. She first posted on Facebook around 9:30 pm on Friday (March 15). Then she commited suicide by hanging himself. Later, when she was immediately rescued and taken to the district headquarters hospital, the doctors in charge of the hospital declared her dead.
