Accused will be given maximum punishment: JnU Vice-Chancellor

Jagannath University (JnU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sadeka Halim said that action will be taken against all those involved in this incident. The University operates according to a law. The accused assistant proctor has been temporarily suspended as per University rules. He will be expelled subject to investigation. We cannot do this outside the law without investigation. The maximum punishment will be ensured according to the law I have in hand.

She came to the university on Friday (March 15) around 1:30 pm and assured the protesting students and said these things.

She also said, I did not know about the complaint or report of this sexual harassment incident. If I had known, I would have taken action immediately. I instructed the current proctor as soon as I heard. In the upcoming syndicate, all allegations of sexual harassment will be settled. The University operates under a law. Maximum action will be taken against the accused using all sections and sub-sections of the law.

It should be noted that the student Fairuz Avantika was a student of the 2017-18 academic year of the Law Department of Jagannath University. She first posted on Facebook around 9:30 pm on Friday (March 15). Then she committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Cumilla. Later, she was immediately taken to Cumilla District Headquarters Hospital, where the doctors in charge declared her dead.

Also, Fairuz Avantika made various allegations against her classmate Amman Siddiqui including harassment and threats on her Facebook status. Assistant Proctor Deen called Islam to the office and complained of harassment and defamation.
