‘People-to-people relations are the foundation of India-Bangladesh relations’

Pranay Verma, India's High Commissioner to Bangladesh, said that the deep cordial relationship between the people of the two countries is the basis of India-Bangladesh relations. He said these things in his welcome address at the Iftar program organized by the Indian High Commission in Dhaka at Hotel Intercontinental in the capital on Tuesday.

Highlighting the significance of Iftar in increasing the spirit of brotherhood and humanity, the High Commissioner said, 'Iftar gathering is a symbol of deep bond between people. This deep cordial relationship between the people of the two countries forms the basis of India-Bangladesh relations.

Pranay Verma recalled the joint sacrifices of Bangladesh and India in the Great Liberation War in 1971 to achieve the independence of Bangladesh and reiterated the commitment to further enrich the existing deep bond of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Speaker of the Parliament of Bangladesh Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury was present as the chief guest in the Iftar program. Religious Affairs Minister Md. Faridul Haque Khan was the guest of honor. More than four hundred guests of various classes and professions including members of the cabinet, judges, leaders of various political parties, senior officers of the armed forces and law enforcement agencies, academicians, economists, business leaders, media editors and senior journalists, cultural personalities participated.
