Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has sought India's help in importing electricity from Bhutan.
She made this call when Indian High Commissioner Pronoy Verma met the Prime Minister at Ganabhaban on Thursday (March 21).
After the meeting, Prime Minister's speech writer M Nazrul Islam told reporters that the Prime Minister has sought India's help to bring electricity from Bhutan using Indian territory.
He said that Bangladesh will import electricity from Bhutan and an agreement in this regard will be signed during the upcoming visit of the King of Bhutan on March 25.
It is known that initially Bangladesh has a plan to import 1500 megawatts of electricity from Bhutan.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged the Indian government to remove her country's anti-dumping measures on imports of jute and jute products from Bangladesh.
She said India can modernize Syedpur Railway Workshop.
The Prime Minister told the High Commissioner that Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented development due to the continued democratic system in the country.
High Commissioner Pronoy Verma said that a total of four projects have been implemented in Bangladesh under the Indian Line of Credit (LoC) last year. And two more projects are under process for implementation.
He told the Prime Minister that there are some ground-breaking initiatives between the two countries, including the use of rupees in bilateral trade transactions, digital payment networks and Bangabandhu biopics.
The Indian High Commissioner said India is committed to advancing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership (CEPA) negotiations between the two countries.
He also said that CEPA will be helpful after Bangladesh transitions to a developing economy in 2026.
Prime Minister's Chief Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Mia was present at this time.
