Trawler capsizes in Meghna: 12 rescued, missing constable with wife-son-daughter

Twelve people have been rescued after a tourist trawler sank due to the impact of a sand-bearing bulkhead in the Meghna river at Bhairab of Kishoreganj. However, 8 people including the police constable, his wife, son and daughter are still missing.

The accident took place on Friday (March 22) around 6 pm in the area adjacent to Meghna river Railway Bridge 2 in Bhairab.

The missing are Bhairav Highway police Constable Sohail Rana (35), his wife Moushumi (25), daughter Mahmuda (7) and son Raisul (5). Besides Araddya, Belal, Anika Akhtar and an unidentified woman are still missing.

It is known that the fire service, police station and naval police are working to rescue the missing persons. However, the rescue operation was stopped as the night was late. On Saturday, the rescue work will be started again by bringing the diving team.

Missing Constable Sohail Rana's house is in Cumilla district. His brother Limon Hossain said that my brother is missing along with his wife, son and daughter in this accident.

Bhairav Fire Service Station Officer Azizul Haque Rajan said that 20 people in the trawler drowned. 12 of them were rescued. Besides, the body of a woman has been recovered.

Bhairab Naval Police Station Officer in Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said that Constable Sohel Rana of Bhairab Highway Police Station, his wife and two children are missing in this incident. Naval police are working to rescue them.
