Dhaka University (DU) Social Sciences Faculty Dean Professor Dr. Zia Rahman passed away.
He died on Saturday (March 23) around 4:30 am while undergoing treatment at the capital's LabAid Hospital due to brain hemorrhage. Several teachers of the university have confirmed this information.
Incidentally, he was serving as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of DU, a senior member of the Blue team and a professor in the Department of Criminology.
Prior to this, he served as the Proctor of Freedom Fighters Ziaur Rahman Hall and the founding Chairman of the Criminology Department.
His village home is in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj district. In 1982, he completed his secondary education from the Government Laboratory High School in Dhaka and in 1985; he completed his secondary education from the Government Science College. Later he was admitted to Dhaka University in Sociology. After graduation in 1990 and post-graduation in 1992, he obtained a second master's degree from the University of Calgary in Canada in 2003 and a PhD degree from the same university in 2011. He started his teaching career at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology. In 1997, he joined the Department of Criminology of DU as a teacher.
