The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) said that cesarean sections have increased in the last one year. According to the agency, the cesarean delivery rate in 2023 was 50.7 percent. And in 2022, 41.4 percent of the total deliveries were cesarean deliveries. That is, cesarean delivery has increased by 9.3 percent in one year.

This information has emerged in the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics-2023 report published by the Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Sunday (March 24). The report release ceremony was organized in the institution's own auditorium at Agargaon in the capital.

Alamgir Hossain, project director of the Sample Vital Registration System (SVRS), said that this is worrying and that more research is needed on the matter.

According to the report, the under-five mortality rate will also increase in 2023. In 2022 there were 31 child deaths per thousand; in 2023 it increased to 33.

In 2022, 16 out of every 1,000 children under the age of one month died, increasing to 20 in 2023.

In 2022, 24 out of every 1,000 children under one year of age died, rising to 27 in 2023.

In addition, the average life expectancy of Bangladeshi people in 2023 is 73.3 years, which was 73.4 years in 2022.

According to the report of the organization, the total population of the country has increased by 17 lakh to 17 crore 15 lakh. Among the total population, women are 8 crore 73 lakh and men 8 crore 42 lakh. That is, 31 lakh more women than men in the country.
