BUET Vice-Chancellor(VC) Satya Prasad Majumder commented that student politics can be started again in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) if the teachers and students want.

On Sunday (March 31) the Vice-Chancellor told reporters in his own office.

The VC said that student politics is necessary for the development of students. Student politics can be started again if teachers and students of BUET want.

Meanwhile, BUET students have been protesting since last Friday for 5-point demands, including the ban on student politics. They staged a sit-in program demanding the permanent expulsion of six students, including Imtiaz Rabbi, a 21st batch student of the Civil Engineering department. In the meantime, the university administration has canceled Imtiaz's hall seat.

The protesting students said that after Abrar's murder in 2019, student politics was banned on the campus. Disobeying the ban, some Chhatra League leaders and activists carried out activities on the campus last Wednesday night. They are protesting against it. The students of BUET have warned to boycott all academic activities including exams till Sunday to fulfill their demands.

Satya Prasad Majumder said that the investigation committee is working and will take action if the report is received. And the exam is open; anyone can give it if they want.

Incidentally, Vice-Chancellor Satya Prasad Majumdar told reporters on Saturday that we also agree with the demands of the students. But it takes time to follow due process to fulfill them.
