17th World Autism Awareness Day will be observed on Tuesday (April 2) in Bangladesh like the rest of the world. This year the theme of the day is 'Awareness-Recognition-Valuation: A Journey from Just Surviving to Prosperity'.
On the occasion of the day, a special supplement will be published in the daily newspaper today. Besides, the President and the Prime Minister have given separate messages on the day. In honor of people with autism characteristics, the Ministry of Social Welfare and its departments-organizations and various government institutions will light blue lights. Apart from this, road-branding, special souvenirs and leaflets have been printed to create awareness about autism.
On the occasion of the day, the Ministry of Social Welfare has organized various programs at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital. Minister of Social Welfare Dr. Dipu Moni MP will be the chief guest. The meeting will be chaired by Social Welfare Secretary Md. Khairul Alam Saikh.
13 awards will be presented in five categories at the event. The persons and institutions nominated for the award are - Category 'A' - In the category of successful persons with autism characteristics Muid Hasan, Laila Begum, Ahmed Siam Tanmoy. Category 'B'- Institutions dealing with Autism Prayas, Chattogram, Arunodaya, Kalyani Inclusive School. Category 'C' person who works in the transition of disability Professor Dr. Mahmud Ahmed Chowdhury Arzu, Md. Suman Majumder, Alamgir Hossain. Category 'D' successful parents Ashrafun Nahar, Md. Asrar Billah Khan. Category 'E' successful caregivers Marjahan Begum and Sajeda Akhtar.
