Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said Awami League works with the goal of people's development. Poverty reduction in the country has been achieved for the plan by keeping the target fixed.
She said these things at the swearing-in ceremony of Mayoral Councilors of Cumilla and Mymensingh City Corporations on Thursday (April 4).
Addressing the newly elected Mayors and Councilors, she said, you are elected by the people's vote. If you can ensure public service, you will not worry about voting in the future. People will trust and believe in you. Keep this in mind. Pay special attention to public service that is what we want.
Sheikh Hasina said that the Father of the Nation first took measures to build a ten-bed hospital at the union level to bring medical services to people's doorsteps. He couldn't finish. After I came to the government, I did a community clinic. Local people provided land there; we arranged buildings, provided medical equipment, trained health workers and recruited them. We are giving 30 types of medicines free of charge. As a public representative, you will look at whether the health centers are running properly. Are people getting medical care? Getting service from people is important.
Earlier, newly elected Mayor of Mymensingh City Corporation Ikramul Haque (Titu) and Mayor of Cumilla City Corporation Dr. Tahsin Bahar took oath from the Prime Minister. Chairmen of Kurigram, Thakurgaon, Sirajganj, Brahmanbaria and Habiganj district councils also took oath at this time.
Besides, 44 Councilors of Mymensingh City Corporation took oath from Local Government Minister Tajul Islam.
