Dhaka: The Press Secretary of the Chief Adviser, Shafiqul Alam, said, Indian media is spreading false information on minority issues in Bangladesh. I will hold Indian media responsible for these incidents today. They are running a massive campaign of misinformation.
He said this at a regular briefing at the Foreign Service Academy on Tuesday (December 3) evening.
Shafiqul Alam said, they (Indian media) are spreading false information on minority issues. As a result, the people of India or a section of them are resorting to violence. The attack on the Assistant High Commission is the result of this.
He said, we will invite foreign media to Bangladesh; you come and see the real information. In the meantime, BBC, CNN, Reuters have reported something good. But the Indian media has already determined what to report.
He also said, the Hindu Buddhist Christian Council report mentions 9 deaths. None of these deaths were due to religious reasons. There were political or personal reasons behind each death. However, the Indian media is turning a blind eye to this information and spreading false propaganda.
Shafiqul Alam said, we are calling on Human Rights Watch to come and see. We are very transparent in this regard.
The Indian media is trying to make our entire nation a target on minority issues. We want good relations between Bangladesh and India to establish peace. That relationship should be based on fairness and equality.
He said, after taking office on August 20, Dr. Muhammad Yunus requested Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to send Indian journalists to conduct an investigative report on minorities in Bangladesh. He asked them to investigate and see whether minorities are being subjected to violence (torture) in Bangladesh.
Shafiqul Alam said, our citizen groups, Dias Fora groups, political parties and civil society should raise their voices in protest against the Indian media's propaganda on minority issues.
