The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has arrested former Additional Deputy Police Commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police Md. Sadek Dastagir Kausar, one of the accused in the murder case of journalist ATM Turab, who was shot dead by police during a mass uprising by students and the public.
He was arrested from the Sadar Police Station area of Sherpur district on Wednesday (December 18) afternoon.
The matter was confirmed to Barta24.com by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Sylhet Superintendent of Police Muhammad Khaled-uz-Zaman.
He said that the accused in the Turab murder case was arrested on Wednesday afternoon. He will be produced in court on Thursday (December 19) afternoon.
The PBI has arrested two accused in the Turab murder case. Earlier, Constable Ujjal Singha, the accused in the Turab murder case, was arrested from Dhaka on the night of November 17.
Incidentally, on July 19 this year, ATM Turab was seriously injured in police firing on the road next to the Collectorate Mosque in Bandar Bazar, Sylhet city. He died that evening while undergoing treatment at Ibne Sina Hospital in the city. The newly married Turab was the Sylhet correspondent of the daily Naya Diganta and a staff reporter of the local daily Jalalabad.
A month after the incident (August 19), the deceased's brother Abul Ahsan Md. Azraf (Zabur) filed a case with the Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court as the plaintiff. The case named 18 people, including police officers, headed by former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Kamal. In addition, 200 to 250 unknown people were accused.
