Government to import wheat from Russia

Dhaka, (Barta24.com): Government will import one lakh ton of wheat from Russia on government to government (G to G) system to build up the food security stock more stronger.

On Wednesday(May8)the proposal of the food ministry will be placed in the purchase committee meeting. The meeting will be presided over by Finance Minister AHM Mostofa Kamal.

The meeting will also be attended by committee members including the senior secretary of the cabinet division, concerned secretaries of the ministries and high officials.

According to the proposal of the food ministry the cost of each ton has been estimated at 267.30 dollars. The total value of the imported bulk will cost Taka 224.53 crore.

It is learnt that in the revised budget of 2018-19 fiscal the quantity of imported wheat is 5.5 lakh maunds and for this the allocation has been fixed at Taka 1341.06 crore. In the current fiscal the government already spent Taka 1052.22 crore for importing 4.50 lakh tons of wheat.

In 2013-14 fiscal year a pact between Russian Federation and Bangladesh was signed for importing wheat. In last April a food ministry delegation visited Moscow for importing one lakh ton of wheat.
