Mayor of DSCC informed that the old Dhaka will be refurbished in a new pattern.

He said that “We like to re-develop old Dhaka. Once Singapore, Tokyo cities were like our old Dhaka. We like to follow the ways they had followed to build those cities. We like to write new stories with the old Dhaka. We have kept it in our planning.”

He told all these in reply to questions by journalists in a press conference organized in connection with the four year completion of DSCC held at Hotel Intercontinental on Friday (May 17).

He narrated all his activities done during this four years. However, he failed to reach desired service to the people, he mentioned. For this he blamed lack of coordination of the service organizations.

The Mayor said that to ensure sound city management, coordination among the service lending agencies is very important. If they can be managed properly then many problems will be solved, he said.

Giving an example Mayor Sayed Khokon said that, suppose we have constructed a road after much labor and cost and giving giving sufferings to the people. Just at the finishing stage one service provider seeks permission to dig the road again to perform their job. Then we are compelled to give permission. If there is any coordination then we could do the work better and on time without giving people less sufferings. When this problem will go then we will be able to give planned services to the citizens.

The Mayor gave suggestions to divide the service providers among DNCC and DSCC then the services to the citizens will increase.

Mayor gave the descriptions of the development work of next one year. He said that during the last four years we have been able to make some significant development of the city. We have solved some basic problems of the city. We have set LED lights on the roads. 85 to 90 percent roads have been made suitable for communication. We have chalked out major plan with the newly included unions. We will build a new Hatir Jheel on the bank of Buriganga.

We faced many resistances in doing work but that could not deter us from doing work. We think resistance will come and will go. Our aim will be to do the incomplete work perfectly. I have rested the failure and success on the citizens. I like to get the citizens with me during the rest tenure.

In the Iftar Mahfil after the press conference was over Speaker of Jatiyo Sangsad Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Planning Minister MA Mannan, State Minister for Religious Affairs Shaikh Md. Abdullah, Liberation Affairs Minister AKM Mojammel Haque, Chief Executive Officer of DSCC Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary of DSCC Mostofa Kamal, CEC KM Nurul Huda, Principal Secreatry in PMO Nazibur Rahman, DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia, WASA Md Dr. Taksim A Khan, Engineer Azam Khan, Columnist Syed Abul Maksud and Kazi Feroz Rashid MP participated.
