Three thousand slums are now heap of debris!

About Three thousand slums of Mirpur section -7 near Chalantika crossing is now a heap of debris by the devastating fire which razed for three hours.

This scene was observed at 10-30 of Friday (August 16) night.

After visiting the hellish area on the spot it was found that not a single house is unaffected due to razing fire which gutted everything movable and immovable properties of the slum dwellers leaving only some burnt tins, bamboos and wood pieces.

Thousands of slum dwellers were found crying and observing the debris with tearful eyes.

Talking with locals it was learned there were three thousand well equipped sheds which are now heap of debris after burning. Most of the slum dwellers are garments workers of near by Reo Fashion, Reo design and Jeeta garments.

It may be mentioned here that in the evening of Friday (August 16) this devastating fire incident took place that continued for more than three hours.

As soon as the fire broke out gradually 20 units of fire fighters started extinguishing fire and at one stage when the water exhausted water was supplied from the nearby water reserve tanks of the houses buildings, WASA vans and other sources but the devastation could not be checked.

However the slum dwellers came out of their sheds as soon as the fire engulfed the area. The reports of any injury or death cannot be ascertained yet.  

The Jatiya Sangsad members of Dhaka -16 Ilyash Ali Molla said that after liberation he has no experience of such devastating fire. However he assured that the affected will be provided with help as far as possible.

On the other hand DNCC Mayor Md. Atiqul Islam said that it was not an act of sabotage rather it might be an accident which could be unearthed after proper investigation.
