ECNEC clears 12 projects involving Tk 5,494 cr

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved 12 projects involving a total amount of Taka 5,494.04 crore including one for acquiring land to build a sewerage treatment plant in the city’s Uttara area with Taka 1,398 crore.

ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chaired the meeting, held at the NEC Conference Room in the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Briefing the reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan said that of the total project cost of Taka 5,494.04 crore, the government will provide Taka 5,416.04 crore while the rest of Taka 78 crore will come as project assistance.

Of the total project cost, Tk 1,398 crore will be spent on land acquisition to set up a sewerage treatment plant in the city’s Uttara area.

About the sewerage treatment plant, the minister said Dhaka Wasa under the Local Government Division will implement the project by June 2021 aiming to ensure hygienic, environment-friendly and sustainable sanitation system in Uttara area.

The main project activities include acquiring 53.75 acres of land and providing compensation.

Besides, a project titled 'Construction of Rest Houses including Parking Facilities beside Four National Highways for Drivers of Goods-Laden Vehicles to ensure Sustainable and Safe Highways' will be implemented by June 2021 at a cost of Tk 226.22 crore, he said.

About the project, the minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the meeting asked the authorities concerned to build modern houses for the drivers and helpers of vehicles.

The Prime Minister also instructed for being mindful so that trucks and other vehicles cannot carry goods beyond their capacities.

She also directed the authorities concerned to make arrangements for plantation while developing roads in hilly areas to avoid landslides.
