Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said Myanmar promised to give national cards to Rohingyas, who fled to Bangladesh to escape atrocities committed against them in the Rakhine state.

“A tripartite meeting among Bangladesh, China and Myanmar was held at the United Nations where the countries decided that they will form a committee to finalise repatriation of Rohingyas,” he said.

The minister was talking to reporters after attending the inaugural session of a workshop titled ‘Keeping Youths off Militancy and Extremism: The Experience from North Bengal’ at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (Oct 2).

The minister said, “Myanmar told the meeting that they will give all Rohingyas national cards. China gave consent to the move. It’s good news for us.”

To a question, he said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will discuss with her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi different bilateral issues, including sharing of waters of common rivers, during her 3-6 Oct visit to New Delhi.
