Six die, over 100 injured, houses damaged

At least six people have been killed, over a hundred injured and a large number of houses damaged in the Cyclone Bulbul that lashed Bangladesh coasts on Saturday (Nov 9) midnight.

The deaths were reported from coastal districts Patuakhali, Khulna, Barguna, Bagerhat and Satkhira. Barta24.com correspondents report from districts on the cyclonic storm:

Patuakhali:

A 60-year-old man – Hamed Fakir -- died at Rampura village under Mirzaganj upazila of Patuakhali district as a tree fell on his house on Saturday midnight, Upazila Executive Officer Shawkat Anwar said.

Administration sources said the district is experiencing heavy rain with gusty wind.

Khulna:

Two persons were killed in Dacope and Dighalia upazilas under Khulna district on Sunday morning during the cyclonic storm.

Dacope Upazila Executive Officer Abdul Wadud said Promila Mandal (52) died on the spot after a tree fell on her house near the cyclone centre at Dakkhin Dacope Primary School.

Dighalia Upazila Executive Officer Hafiz Al Asad said Alamgir Mistry (35) was killed when a tree fell on his house at Katania village under the upazila around 10am on Sunday during the storm.

Bhola:

At least 15 people were injured and over a hundred houses damaged after Cyclone Bulbul battered Bhola coastal district on Saturday midnight.

Local sources said the district is experiencing heavy rain with storm that has inflicted huge damage on dwelling houses, trees and crops and left most of the areas of the district without electricity.

Barguna:

A woman – Halima Khatun -- died at DL College cyclone shelter in Barguna Sadar Upazila on Saturday night.

Barguna Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Anisur Rahman confirmed her death to Barta24.com but attributed the demise to illness.

Meherpur:

There had been incessant rain in Meherpur district for the last two days until Sunday morning. The cessation in the rain has brought relief among farmers in the district who are waiting for Aman harvest.

Bagerhat:

A 15-year-old girl died at Uzalkur union under Rampal upazila of Bagerhat district as a tree uprooted by Cyclone Bulbul fell on her.

Bagerhat Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Kamrul Islam confirmed Samia Khatun’s death to Barta24.com. He said the storm damaged a large number of houses and trees in the coastal district.

Satkhira:

An old man – Abul Kamal – died while returning home from a cyclone shelter at Gabura in Satkhira district on Sunday morning. Local administration, however, said he died of cardiac arrest.
