Count Down to celebrate the birth centenary of the founding President of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Bangabandhu's eldest daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina formally inaugurated the count down with 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu' slogans.
She inaugurated the count down pressing the switch at the old airport at Tejgaon area of Dhaka on Friday (Jan. 10) at 5-15 p.m. The government declared 'Mujib Barsho' from March 17, 2020 to March 19 of 2021.
Though Bangabandhu's birthday is on March 17, but the celebration of 'Mujib Barsha' has begun on January 10, the home coming day of Bangabandhu.
After being released from Pakistani prison, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned to independent Bangladesh on January 10, 1972, via London and Delhi.
To commemorate the historic day of Bangabndhu’s return to Bangladesh, January 10 was selected for count down of Mujib Barsho.
On January 10, 1972, a British Ai Force aircraft carrying Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib landed at the old airport. At 4:30 pm. Accordingly a symbolic aircraft (C-130) carrying the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman displayed through ‘laser ray’ also landed at Tejgaon Old Airport.
At 4:45 p.m. the aircraft reached the tarmac area and as soon as the door was opened the artillery shelled 21 times. When the door of the plane opened at 4-50 p.m. 150 students and their leaders welcomed him.
With the inauguration of count down by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's, countdown clock set up in 53 district points, at 2 upazill points, at 28 points of 12 city corporations and at 83 points including Dhaka University of the capital.
