The interim government is going to amend the International Crimes Tribunal Act to create an opportunity to take punitive action against political parties, said Law Adviser Dr. Asif Nazrul. For this, he also said that the draft of the International Crimes Tribunal Ordinance will be raised for approval in the Advisory Council meeting on Wednesday (November 20).

The Law Adviser said this at a press conference on the 100-day activities of the Law Ministry at the Secretariat on Tuesday (November 19).

The tribunal will be able to make recommendations to the concerned authorities to take punitive action against the accused political party – he said that the draft ordinance has such a provision.

He said that the draft states that if the court thinks that they can make recommendations to the concerned authority (relevant authority) to take necessary punitive action against the political party.

The law adviser said that the court, as the 'concerned authority', can make recommendations to the Home Ministry and the Election Commission, but these issues are not mentioned in the draft.

At this time, the law adviser said that almost all criminal cases filed from July 1 to August 5 have been withdrawn. 4,300 legal officers have been appointed after examining and selecting 90,000 to 100,000 applications.
