Court orders transfer of Abrar killing case for trial

The court has ordered the transfer of the case of Abrar Fahad killing, a student of Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET).

As the case is ready for trial, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaiserul Islam on Monday (Jan.13) ordered transfer of the case to Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court for trial.

Earlier on January 5, the court had directed publish advertisement in the news paper for the absconding accused.

On October 6 night of last year, some leaders of the BUET branch of Chhatra League allegedly had beaten Abrar to death by calling him at room no.2011in Sher-e-Bangla Hall of BUET. It is alleged that Abrar was killed for giving a post in the Face Book on October 5.

Abrar's father Barkatullah filed a murder case on Monday with Chawkbazar police station in the capital accusing 19 students of BUET. The accused are all leaders of the BUET Chhatra League.

DB police inspector (unarmed) Wahiduzzaman after investigating the case submitted a charge-sheet in the court on last November 13, accusing 25 people. The court accepted  the charge sheet filed by DB police on November 18.

The four charge-sheeted accused absconding are Morshed-Uz-Zaman Mondal alias Jisan, Ehteshamul Rabbi alias Tanim, Morshed Amatya Islam and Mujtaba Rafid.

The other accused in the charge sheet are the expelled BUET student; Information and Research secretaryMd. Anik Sarkar, Deputy Social Services Secretary Ifti Mosharraf Shakal, Sports Secretary Meftahul Islam Zion, Organizing Secretary Mehdi Hasan Robin, Md. Moniruzzaman Monir, Khandaker Tabakkharul Islam Tanvir, student Mujahidur Rahman and ASM Nazmus Sadat, BUET Chhatra League General Secretary Mehdi Hassan Russell, Deputy law Secretary Amit Saha, joint general secretary Muhtamim Fuad, activist Muntasir Al Jemi, Library and publication secretary Ishtiak Ahmed Munna, Abrar’s room mate Mizanur Rahman, Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Akash Hossain, Md. Majedur Rahman Majed, Shamim Billah, Muaz alias Abu Huraira and SM Mahmood Setu.

Six of the accused have given confessional statements in court.
