After various dramas, Awami League has given 26 seats to the Jatiya Party(JP) in the 12th JS elections. However, even if there is no boat symbol, they will have to fight against independent candidates of Awami League. In that case, the JP candidates may face tumble.
Earlier, Awami League announced its candidacy for 298 seats on November 25. Since then, meetings have been held with the Jatiya Party and 14 party partners regarding the distribution of seats. Finally, on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on December 17, the party came to an agreement with the partners regarding seat distribution. It can be seen there that Awami League left 26 seats for Jatiya Party and 6 seats for 14 party partners.
Even before the election, the Jatiya Party has announced to field candidates in 300 seats but has changed its word time and again. In the end, the party is contesting in 283 seats. Apart from the 26 seats left by Awami League, the party will contest with a plough in all the remaining seats.
The meeting with Awami League about the distribution of seats was also hidden. The president of the party also avoided the media including the party leaders and workers for some time. In that case, there is uncertainty about coming to the election. However, after ending all doubts, the party came to the election with a compromise of 26 seats.
Awami League has not come to any agreement regarding the independent candidates despite the withdrawal of boat candidates from the seats left for the Jatiya Party. In that case, the Plough candidates will have to face competition from Awami League's heavyweight independent candidates including the current parliament members. In such a situation, many people think that many candidates may have to lose their security.
Talking to the party's leaders and activists at different levels, it is known that they are also worried about this. But they also expressed optimism about winning. Even if Awami League does not have a boat, he thinks that the party's leaders and workers will work for independent candidates. In that case, they want the intervention of the policy makers of Awami League so that the leaders and activists of Awami League work for the plough.
According to related sources, Jatiya Party candidates are more worried about the hidden boat than the open boat. In such a situation, they felt that a lot of victory or defeat depends on how much the local leaders and activists of Awami League can pull for them. An analysis of the 26 seats withdrawn by the Awami League for the Jatiya Party shows that in most of them, Plough will have to fight against the independents of the Awami League. There the result will be decided in the bone fight. Therefore, even if there is no boat, the fear of the plough candidates is not over.
Rana Mohammad Sohail will fight in Nilphamari-3 constituency with Jatiya Party's plough symbol. Awami League candidate Golam Mostafa has withdrawn his nomination from the seat, but his wife Marzia Sultana will fight as an independent candidate in the election field. Apart from this, the other independents of Awami League are Abu Said Shamim, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League, Saddam Hossain Pavel, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary of Central Jubo League, Hukum Ali Khan, former joint convener of Upazila Jubo League and are in the field fight. So the plough has to fall in the face of strong competition.
Ahsan Adelur Rahman got the plough symbol of Jatiya Party in Nilphamari-4 constituency. This constituency consists of Syedpur and Kishoreganj upazilas. Mokhsedul Momin Sakhawat Hossain, the recently resigned chairman of Syedpur Upazila Parishad and president of Upazila Awami League, will contest from this seat as an independent candidate. In that case, he will have to face the heavyweight individual of Awami League.
Former MP Hossain Maqbul Shahriar, the nephew of JP chairman GM Quader, will contest the elections with a plough in Rangpur-1 seat. Awami League independent candidate Asaduzzaman Bablu and former Jatiya Party secretary general Moshiur Rahman Ranga are fighting against him. Therefore, Plough has to win the three-way electoral battle in the seat.
Abdur Rashid Sarkar got Jatiya Party's plough in Gaibandha-2 constituency. Former Gaibandha Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir will contest as an independent candidate in the seat. He resigned from the post of upazila chairman and sought the nomination of boat, but after not getting a boat, he decided to run as an independent candidate. He is also the grandson of Shah Abdul Hamid, the first speaker of the Bangladesh JS and the organizing secretary of Gaibandha District Awami League.
Shariful Islam Jinnah got Jatiya Party plough in Bogra-2 seat. He was elected Member of Parliament unopposed in 2014. After defeating Mahmudur Rahman Manna in 2018, he became a Member of Parliament again. Beauty Begum, former women's affairs secretary of district BNP and former vice chairman of Shibganj upazila parishad, will contest the seat as an independent candidate. As it is known to be a BNP dominated area, it is believed that the former leader of BNP is slightly ahead.
Md. Ashrafuzzaman will fight from Satkhira-2 constituency with the plough of Jatiya Party. Even if the boat is withdrawn from the seat, former district Awami League president and former member of parliament Engineer Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tala Upazila Awami League president Sheikh Nurul Islam and district Awami League member SM Mujibur Rahman will face each other. In that case, the plough must fall before the four-way fight.
Mushrekul Azam Robi will fight from Pirojpur-3 constituency with the plough of Jatiya Party. He is the advisor of JP Chairman GM Quader. Rustam Ali Faraji, a four-time Member of Parliament and Central Vice Chairman of Jatiya Party, did not even seek party nomination from the seat. Later he decided to hold independent elections in the field. He is tired though there is no heavyweight candidate of Awami League in the seat, Plough will have to fight against an independent candidate of his own party.
Fakhrul Imam got Jatiya Party's plough in Mymensingh-8 constituency. He is a presidium member of the Jatiya Party. Upazila Awami League Joint General Secretary and Upazila Parishad Chairman Mahmud Hasan Sumon has become an independent candidate against Fakhrul Imam in this seat. Mahmud Hasan Sumon is said to be a tough opponent against Plough. In that case, the Jatiya Party candidate will have to face tough competition. In addition, district Awami League member Upazila Parishad Vice Chairman Badrul Alam and independent candidates have become candidates for the seat.
General Secretary of Jatiya Party Mujibul Haque Chunnu will be contesting with a plough in Kishoreganj-3 constituency. On the other hand, New York Metropolitan Awami League's organizing secretary Mahfuzul Haque Haider, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's former ADC major (Retd.) will contest from the seat as an independent candidate. Barrister Md. Nasimul Haque and labor affairs secretary of the Central Committee of Awami Sechchasebak League Golam Kabir Bhuiyan are there. So the General Secretary of Jatiya Party also has to face tough competition to win.
Zahurul Alam Rubel got plow in Manikganj-1 constituency. Although Awami League has withdrawn its boat candidate from the seat, Awami League's heavyweight independent candidate remains. Salauddin Mahmud Zahid, former organizing secretary of the Jubo League Central Committee and member of the District Awami League Advisory Council, will contest from the seat. There are indications of a close fight with him in the election.
Sherifa Quader got Jatiya Party symbol in Dhaka-18 constituency. She is the wife of party chairman GM Quader also an advisor to the Jatiya Party. Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League's Industry and Commerce Secretary Md. Khasru Chowdhury CIP will fight against her as an independent candidate in the seat. He is also the Director of BGMEA and Chairman of Nipa Group and KC Foundation. Therefore, it is known that Plough symbol will have to face a tough fight to win the seat.
Md. Abdul Monin will fight with plough symbol in Habiganj-1 constituency. Former reserved seat MP Amatul Kibria Chowdhury Kaya and current MP Shahnewaz Gazi's younger brother Gazi Md. Shahed Md. are independents from the seat. Therefore, Jatiya Party has to face a three-way fight.
Abdul Hamid will be contesting in Brahmanbaria-2 constituency with the plough of Jatiya Party. Even if you don't have a boat, you have to face a tough fight to be elected as a member of Parliament. Advocate Ziaul Haque Mridha, known as Awami League's heavyweight, is an independent in the seat. Also, former joint general secretary of Brahmanbaria district Awami League Moin Uddin Moin is also contesting as an independent candidate.
Jatiya Party's candidate for Chattogram-8 constituency Md. Sulaiman Alam Seth. Awami League also withdrew the boat from this seat. But the seat has a strong independent candidate. He is Chattogram Metropolitan Awami League Finance Secretary and former CDA Chairman Abdus Salam. So whoever wins the seat will have to face tough competition.
Also Rangpur-3 GM Quader, Thakurgaon-3 Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Narayanganj-5 AKM Salim Osman, Chattogram-5 Anisul Islam Mahmud, Feni-3 Masud Uddin Chowdhury, Kurigram-1 AKM Mustafizur Rahman, Kurigram-2 Panir Uddin Ahmed, Patuakhali-1 ABM Ruhul Amin Howladar, Gaibandha-1 Shamim Haider Patwari, Bogra-3 Md. Nurul Islam Talukdar of Awami League has withdrawn, Barisal-3 Ghulam Kibria Tipu and Mymensingh-5 Salahuddin Ahmed Mukti constituencies. However, as there are no strong rivals in the seats, it is assumed that there will not be a tough fight.
