The angry leaders have given a 48-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader and secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu.
Saidur Rahman Tepa, presidium member of the party announced this at 12:50 pm on Wednesday (January 10).
Saidur Rahman Tepa said, if they do not resign in the meantime, we will assume that they have resigned.
Presidium member Sahidur Rahman Tepa, Liakat Hossain Khoka, Zahirul Alam Rubel and other senior leaders were present at this time.
Meanwhile, the Jatiya Party nominees who were forced to withdraw from the election sent a statement to the media.
It is said in that statement that you have already known the results of the 12th National Parliament election. There was no other option to hold elections in the country due to the constitutional obligation. However, it would be better if the national elections were held with the participation of all parties. You have seen that in this election, the Jatiya Party has suffered an extreme defeat. The chief patron of the party, Roushan Ershad, abstained from the election due to a disagreement with the chairman of the Jatiya Party on the question of candidate selection.
But she did not allow division within the party. Whereas party chairman Ghulam Mohammad Quader's organizational weakness in the last 4 years is political.
He led the Jatiya Party to the verge of collapse due to lack of vision and inefficiency. That was reflected in the 12th JS elections.
The statement also said that more than two hundred candidates of the party have boycotted the election due to extreme betrayal, cheating and putting them on a path. There has also been a complete collapse of 26 constituencies by protesting to the government. We had hoped that the chairman and secretary general of the party would resign and protect their honor by taking responsibility for putting the Jatiya Party in such a state of disrepair and causing a landslide in the elections. But they did not understand that. We got to know the attitude of the leaders and workers at all levels of the party. They want to see party chairman GM Quader and secretary general Mujibul Haque Chunnu removed from their posts.
In such a situation, GM Quader and Mujibul Haque Chunnu should resign from their posts within the next 48 hours to protect the Jatiya Party and maintain the unity of the party, the statement said. Thereafter they shall be deemed to have been removed from their posts. At this stage, the central executive committee of the party will be formed through the national conference by appointing an acting/executive chairman and an acting secretary general of the party.
Now the leaders holding other positions of the central committee of the party will remain in their positions except for some changes if necessary. An investigation committee will be formed to investigate all the irregularities, corruption, money scams that have taken place in the nomination of Jatiya Party candidates in the 12th parliamentary elections and the reasons for the result of the disaster. All the Jatiya Party candidates who were forced to withdraw from the election will be evaluated in the future. At this moment our main task will be to organize the party and hold a national conference.
Earlier, extreme tension prevailed in the Jatiya Party Chairman's Banani office since morning. At around 11:30 AM, presidium member and president of Dhaka Metropolitan North Jatiya Party Shafiqul Islam Sentu, presidium member Sahidur Rahman Tepa, Liaquat Hossain Khoka, Zahirul Alam Rubel and other senior leaders were prevented from entering the office. They overcame the police and entered the Banani office. They had an argument with the police.
Among the senior leaders were presidium member Sunil Shubo Roy, Imran Hossain Miah, Jahangir Alam Pathan, general secretary of Dhaka North Metropolitan JP.
