BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir got bail in 9 cases of arsons of Ramna and Paltan police stations in the capital.
After the bail hearing on Wednesday (January 10) afternoon, Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Sultan Sohag Uddin's court granted him bail. Mirza Fakhrul was not brought to the court. The hearing was held in his absence.
Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mejbah confirmed the matter.
On December 13, Mirza Fakhrul's lawyer Mejbah applied to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court seeking bail in these 9 cases. The court did not accept his hearing as the police did not arrest him in this case. He then approached the High Court. The High Court ordered the bail hearing to be held as per law.
DB Police arrested Mirza Fakhrul from his home in Gulshan at around 9:30 am on October 29. He was sent to jail that day. Since then he has been in jail.
