BNP will write to the Chief Adviser of the country's interim government and to the United Nations, seeking an impartial investigation into the killings that took place around the anti-discrimination student movement. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced this decision in an emergency press conference at the party's Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Saturday (August 10) night.
At the beginning of the press conference, the Secretary General of BNP paid tribute to the martyrs of the recent agitation. Then he expressed sincere thanks to the Advisers of the Interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam said, "Before the victory in the previous movement, the brutal massacre by the Awami League government with its forces was the biggest concern of the United Nations." We have decided to send a letter asking for an impartial investigation by the United Nations. I have also decided to write a letter to the Chief Adviser (Professor Dr. Yunus). At the same time, 57 workers were arrested and tried in the United Arab Emirates for supporting the movement. We will write to the interim government to take initiative for their release.
BNP Secretary General thanked the interim government and said that the President has appointed a new Acting Chief Justice. I believe that the situation created in the judicial department will be freed to a large extent.
Regarding the attack on minorities, Mirza Fakhrul said that misleading news about the current situation is being presented in the media of the country and abroad. There various attacks on minority communities, deterioration of law and order situation - these issues are being highlighted; which is not quite right. In some places the problem is more political than communal.
Condemning the reporting of news involving BNP in communal attacks, he said that BNP is not involved in such incidents, nor can any sane political party or individual in the country be involved. A plot is afoot. A plot to destroy the country's newly acquired independence has begun.
BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Vice Chairman Barkat Ullah Bulu, Zainal Abedin, Advisor to Chairperson Masud Ahmed Talukder, Legal Affairs Secretary Qaiser Kamal and Associate Legal Affairs Secretary Mejbah Uddin were present.
