The Home Ministry of the Interim Government has ordered police escort for the security of BNP Chairperson former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

BNP Chairperson Private Secretary ABM Abdul Sattar confirmed the matter on Tuesday (August 13) afternoon.

ABM Abdul Sattar said that the Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered police escort for the security of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia. BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, convicted in a corruption case, has been temporarily freed since 2020 by the government's executive order, but there was no regular police security then.

He said that Khaleda Zia was completely freed from the sentence after the fall of the government in the mass movement of students. President Md. Sahabuddin has waived the sentence of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia under Article 49 of the Constitution, the Security Services Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs said in a notification.

Earlier, on February 8, 2018, former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was sentenced to five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case. In October of that year, the sentence was increased to 10 years after hearing the appeal in the High Court.
