Joint Convener of North District BNP Sarwar Alamgir commented that the common people are now enjoying the benefits of real victory due to the contribution of the student-people movement.
He made this comment during an exchange of views with the local coordinators of anti-discrimination student society in Fatikchari on Wednesday (August 14) afternoon.
Sarwar Alamgir said, "On behalf of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party BNP, we sincerely thank you for the movement against discrimination by bringing students from all walks of life, including right and left, under the same umbrella. On the day the dictatorship fell, we told the leaders and activists that strict action would be taken if anyone was involved in any wrongdoing, many have already been expelled. Students were the leaders of all subsequent movements and struggles starting from the independence war of Bangladesh.
After the fall of the government, various police stations and police outposts of the country were attacked, but the two police stations of Fatikchari were safe and unharmed, he said, "We who do politics, we have a retreat." But the students are indomitable, they have no retreat. Because of you we can taste this victory. We have to defend this victory. All kinds of misdeeds including looting and extortion should be stopped. On the plus side, our Fatikchari and Bhujpur police stations were completely safe. No weapons were looted, no damage was done. This was possible due to the anti-discrimination student society and the huge crowd. I have been in favor of the just movement before, I am still, and I will be in the future, inshallah.
He also said that the attacks on the places of worship and the institutions of the minorities are being done by the superpowers to show it to the outside world. But we have placed guards in all places of worship, including temples, so that they do not succeed.
Fatikchari Municipality BNP convener Mobarak Hossain Kanchan, local BNP activists and local leaders of anti-discrimination student society were present.
