BNP Standing Committee member Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said that only the students' movement did not bring revolution. BNP has been agitating for 17 years. Sheikh Hasina's dictatorship has escaped due to her continuation.
He said these things while addressing a discussion meeting at Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) on Sunday (September 29) as the chief guest. The Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party organized the discussion on the topic of "What freedom fighters should do in the current political context to build a state".
Major (Retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram said, this government (interim) should have formed a good Election Commission. But they didn't do that. No roadmap provided. Only six reform commissions have been formed. Corrupt Awami League officials and police officers should not have been sheltered in the cantonment.
Regarding the interim government, he said, many people think that you are a weak government. That's why Ansar has plotted a counter-revolution with the army. So I would say - you talk to everyone to prove that you are not weak. Take help of freedom fighters.
Major Hafiz said that the people's government can implement the spirit of ‘71. Elected representatives are enough to reform. You (interim government) can only make proposals. We will watch how the government reforms. This government is everyone's government. Not just student government. Everyone has participation here. We want to see the reflection of the August revolution. History of the August Revolution so that no one can distort it.
This former minister said, corruption is the disease of all of us. We have to take action against it. I can learn it from the neighboring country India. It is a law in their country that if the Prime Minister or President is found guilty of corruption, he can be removed from power and sent straight to jail. We also have to give that kind of institutional form. ACC needs to be strengthened. The Leader of the Parliament, the Leader of the Opposition and the Chief Justice will appoint the ACC Chairman which is in India.
He said that the injured people who have staked their lives in the anti-dictatorship movement are suffering without treatment in the hospital. Have you forgotten them so easily? We want to live with the spirit of the August movement as long as we live. We will be vigilant so that no one can spoil this right because Sheikh Hasina called everyone Razakar, people of all classes and professions of the country are angry.
Regarding the unrest in the hilly areas, Major Hafiz also said that the people of the hills are simple. There is a conspiracy to mislead them. Peace was established in the hills due to the strong action of martyred President Ziaur Rahman. I will tell neighboring India not to provoke them with weapons and training. But all the people of Bangladesh are ready for war. In the future, if BNP comes to power, military training will be made mandatory for all 18-year-olds. Especially the students will be trained in many countries of the world. Every citizen undergoes 1 to 2 years of military training.
Chairman of Muktijoddha Dal, Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat, also spoke, Adviser to BNP Chairperson Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Muktijoddha Dal Zainul Abdin, Joint Member Secretary of AB Party, Barrister Asaduzzaman Fuad and others were present.
