Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of National Board of Revenue has sent separate letters to banks asking to freeze bank accounts of Swechchhasebak League president along with two ward councilors, three judo leaders and their wives and family members and business organizations they own.
The letters were issued on Monday (October 21), barring withdrawal and transfer of any money from these accounts.
The order was issued against the bank accounts of Swechchhasebak League president Molla Abu Kawsar, Dhaka North City Corporation’s (DNCC) ward-32 councilor and Mohammadpur Thana Awami League general secretary Pagla Mizan, DNCC ward-33 counsillor and Dhaka city north Jubo League joint secretary Tarekuzzaman Razib, Jubo League presidium member Sheikh Fazlur Rahman Maruf, Jubo League office secretary Anisur Rahman and Jubo League leader KM Masudur Rahman and their wives and family members.
NBR also asked Banks to freeze bank accounts of expelled Jubo League president Omar Faruk Chowdhury and his family members and organizations.
So far accounts of at least 20 leaders of different affiliates of the ruling AL, including Ismail Hossain Chowdhury, Nur Nabi Chowdhury Shaown MP, Selim Pradhan, GK Shamim and Khaled have been frozen by the order of NBR in the wake of the recently launched drive against corruption and illegal businesses.
