After the 11th Jatiyo Sangsad (JS) election BNP could not organize any program on the streets. The activists and leaders in fear of cases, arrest and police harassment avoided open movement much before election.

Though they termed the election of December 30 as the ‘election of deep night’ but they failed to organize any big meeting or rally. Even they failed to free their leader Khaleda Zia who was imprisoned much before election, still now they cannot organize any big rally.

Gradually Khaleda Zia is becoming sick and their family members alleged that she is so sick that she cannot move her organs now. Under such circumstances the BNP leaders and activists could not do anything except legal procedure and programs within rooms.

BNP leaders have been saying from much ago that their party chief cannot be freed through legal procedure but can be freed only through movement but that movement they could not organize till now. BNP standing committee member Mowdud Ahmed and other leaders told that through legal process there is no possibility of the release of Khaleda Zia.

For last few days BNP was thinking to get release of Khaleda Zia through movement. They want to come out on the streets through organizing strong movement. There is rumor that the control of movement will be in the hand of London exiled BNP acting chairman Tareq Rahman. He will take decision discussing with the senior leaders if necessary.

As part of the movement BNP took some steps also. Meanwhile some committees of its affiliated organizations were formed. After the formation of their student organization they are making rehearsals on the campus and sitting at Madhu’s canteen regularly. Their presence on campus was observed despite attacks on them several times.

On last Sunday (Nov. 24) Secretary General of party Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has announced in a rally held in front of party’s Naya Paltan office that in future BNP will not seek any police permission in holding rally.

Before giving any outline of the movement BNP has lost its direction again. On last Tuesday (Nov. 26) in a case filed by police on the ground that they have attacked police vans and caused damage in front of High Court. Following the incident a number of top leaders were arrested on Thursday (Nov.28). However, most of them were released on bail later.

ON Tuesday night Muktijoddha dal President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. On the other hand Joint Secretary General and Narshingdi BNP president Khairul Kabir Khokon was arrested on Thursday in the morning in front of High Court. BNP vice chairman Major (RTD) Hafizuddin Ahmed and Chattra dal DUCSU VP candidate Mostafizur Rahman were arrested. However, Major (RTD) Hafiz was released by the order passed by the High Court.

On the other hand in the same vandalizing case in front of High Court granted bail to top leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Alamgir, Mirza Abbas, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Abdullah Al Noman for eight weeks.

So it is supposed that there will be negative impacts among the activists as the incidents of arrests, harassing by police have begun. Every body will have to wait to see that how far BNP can proceed for the release of Khaleda Zia.
