Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said any movement to free BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will go against the court order and may constitute contempt of court.

He made the observation while talking to reporters on Wednesday (Dec 4) after visiting the venue of the 21st national council of Awami League scheduled for Dec 20-21 at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

“I believe it will be contempt of court if BNP begins street movement ignoring court order or law. Then it will be a matter to see whether the court does anything voluntarily on the matter,” he said.

BNP has announced that the party will go on movement to secure the release of Khaleda unless the government frees her from prison by December 5.

The BNP chief is serving jail term in a graft case. The party has been demanding her release saying she is sick and needs release for medical treatment overseas.

To a question on the movement announcement, Hasan Mahmud, also publicity secretary of the ruling Awami League, said, “Against whom BNP is going to wage movement? Is it against the court?
