Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said it is the jurisdiction of the court to or not to grant bail to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
“The government is not interfering in the court affairs over Khaleda Zia’s bail,” he said while talking to reporters at the beginning of the triennial council of Kurigram district Awami League on Thursday (Dec 12).
Obaidul Quader’s statement came the day the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court heard the bail petition of Khaleda Zia. The court later rejected her petition.
To a question, Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said the anti-graft purge Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has begun will continue across the country.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission is working on that. They’re preparing lists of the corrupt people across the country. Action will be taken based on the list. Nobody involved in corruption will be spared,” he said.
The council of Kurigram district Awami League began at the district stadium after 12pm. Awami League Presidium member Ramesh Chandra Sen presided over the council.
