Central leaders have called for no candidate from outside the Awami League-nominated mayoral candidate and party-backed councilors and reserved councilors in the Dhaka North City Corporation election.
The leaders also directed the Awami League councilor candidates to work for the party by withdrawing their nomination of those Awami League leaders who had submitted nominations. The individual is also directed to act in the interest of the party by devoting one's interests.
In a special extended meeting held on Thursday (Jan. 2) at the White Hall Convention Center, Dhanmondi, at noon with the Awami League nominated mayoral candidate Atiqul Islam Atiq and party-backed councilor candidates.
The meeting chaired by Dhaka City North Awami League President Sheikh Bazlur Rahman was addressed among others by Farooq Khan, joint general secretary Mahbub ul Alam Hanif, Education minister. Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, MPs Sadek Khan, Aslamul Haque, Elias Uddin Mollah, Awami League nominated candidate Atiqul Islam, General Secretary of Dhaka City Awami League SA Mannan Kochi.
Tofail Ahmed said, "It is not Atiq's election, Atiq will be mayor, we are not working for Atiq. We are working for ‘boat’; we are working for the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I'm working for the party. '
We could not give nominations to all for the post of councilors. Please don't be any other candidate than the party nominated one. If so, I think there is no loyalty to the party. They were nominated by the Nomination Board under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister based on public opinion and reports of various organizations. I have started the DNCC election from today. We will work as one and the same.
In reply to BNP's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam, Tofail Ahmed said he (Fakhrul) said he came to know that the elections would not be fair. Joint Secretary General Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said the Awami League nominee has no choice but to win. Every leader has to work down the field. You must reach the voter at any cost. Support has been given from the highest level of the Awami League. It is the responsibility of each leader to win the Awami League-backed candidates. No alternative, we don't want to see.
"Our goal is to be the only party-backed councilors to win," she said. Politics is not of one-day only. Those who did not get nomination they will be evaluated in the future. Do not want the Awami League to again disobey the leader's instructions for his own interests.
Education Minister Dr. Dipu Moni said those who were not supported by the party would not be candidates. Withdraw, sit down. Let's all work for the boat. Do not let anyone standing in front of the boat to be branded as betrayer.
