Rain delayed first semi-final, New Zealand post 211/5 in 46.1 overs
The first semi-final of ICC World Cup 2019 between India and New Zealand has been delayed due to rain.
Downpour increased and became incessant as umpires decided to come off here. New Zealand scoreboard halted at 211/5 after 46.1 overs.
New Zealand lost Jimmy Neesham and Coolin De Grandhomme in quick successions as the Kiwis reach the 200-run mark.
Neesham never looked comfortable on the field as he was sent back by Hardik Pandya after he scored 12 off 18 balls.
De Grandhomme on the other hand scored a quickfire 16 off ten balls before being caught behind the stumps by Dhoni as Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a slower.
Ross Taylor still on the crease having scored 60 runs off 81 balls after 45 overs.
Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first against India. New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to bat against India in the first World Cup semi-final at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
All of the five previous matches in the tournament played on the Manchester ground have been won by the side batting first but the overcast conditions promised to assist India's pacemen.
That meant there was no place in their side for experienced paceman Mohammed Shami.
New Zealand, the 2015 runners-up, qualified fourth after edging out Pakistan on net run-rate.
The Black Caps, appearing in their eighth semi-final but yet to win the World Cup, came into this match on the back of three straight defeats by Pakistan, Australia and England.
Fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, their leading wicket-taker at the tournament with 17 scalps, returned following a hamstring injury in place of Tim Southee.
