Government of India has given permission to export 50 thousand tons of onion to Bangladesh. Indian exporters can send this onion to Bangladesh by March 31.

India's consumer affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh told reporters in New Delhi on Thursday (February 22). Apart from Bangladesh, 1 thousand 200 tons to Mauritius, 3 thousand tons to Bahrain and 560 tons to Bhutan are allowed to be exported, he said.

He said, traders have been allowed to export this amount till March 31.

The New Delhi official said, based on the recommendation of the Ministry of External Affairs, it has been decided to allow the export of onions to Bangladesh and three other countries.

There is a ban on Indian onion exports till March 31. The ban was imposed on December 4 last year to boost domestic supply and control price hikes.
