Prime Minister directs strict enforcement of laws against hoarders
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to take strict legal action against hoarders ahead of the month of Ramadan.
She said, now we know that the world economy is going into recession due to the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid pandemic. Bangladesh is also not far from it. We have to keep an eye on market conditions, inflation.
The head of government said to the deputy commissioners that ‘fasting’ is coming. During the fasting month, some traders are hoarding, increasing prices and wanting to steal profits. You have to pay attention to that. Domestic production should be increased, dependence should be reduced. Another is the supply problem. Many times an artificial crisis is created; stockpiling will rot but will not give the product to the market. Strict legal measures need to be implemented for this.
I said these words in front of the month of Ramadan, Prime Minister; everyone should pay attention to ensure that the daily necessities are within the reach of the people.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said these things at the Deputy Commissioner (DC) conference on Sunday (March 3). Earlier, she inaugurated the four-day DCs Conference at around 10:30 am.
This time there are 356 proposals on the agenda of the conference. Development of land management and law and order situation and strengthening the activities of local government institutions will be important in the discussion.
Sheikh Hasina in her speech also said that if there is no continuity of the government, the development is disrupted. She thanked the people for the Awami League government coming to power for the fourth time and maintaining the continuity of the government.
Sheikh Hasina highlighted the efforts of the Awami League government to achieve self-sufficiency in food and said that the country has become self-sufficient in food since 2009. She urged the officials to motivate people by increasing training at the village level. She expressed optimism that the target of production will be achieved.
Pointing out that vigilance and monitoring of juvenile gangs is increasing, the Prime Minister further said that juvenile gangs cannot be reduced just by arresting them and putting them in jail. It has to be solved by families and educational institutions. Intermingling with others in prison can compound this problem.
She also highlighted the important role of the Awami League government in solving the hill problem.
She said that many developmental works are going on there. So she ordered everyone to be careful in ensuring the security of that area.
