Foreign aid: maximum release by World Bank, commitment by ADB

In the last fiscal year 2023-24, Bangladesh has received 215.41 crore US dollars in assistance from the World Bank which is the highest among the aid received from other countries and organizations at the same time.

At the same time, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is at the top in terms of new aid commitments, though it is in second place with 213.57 crore dollars in aid release.

All this information has emerged in a report of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) published on Sunday (July 28).

The report also said that there were no new pledges of aid from major donor countries like India, China and Russia in the last financial year.

It also said that in the last financial year, Japan made the third highest release of 191.80 crore dollars. 129.59 crore dollars came from Russia, which is at the fourth position in the list.

Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is in fifth position with disbursement of 64.43 crore dollars in the last financial year. China and India are ranked sixth and seventh respectively.

On the other hand, ADB topped the new aid pledges with contracts worth 294.13 crore dollars in one year. 261.8 crore dollars contract secured by the World Bank in second position. Japan, which ranks third, has contracts worth 203.92 crore dollars in a year. AIIB, which is in fourth position, has pledged 490 crore dollars.

At this time the government could not make any loan or grant agreements with India, China and Russia.
