Inflation dropped to 10.49 percent in August

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus took over, the prices of the country's daily commodities have gone down. As a result, the overall inflation of the country stood at 10.49 percent in August, which was 11.66 percent in July. In addition, the inflation of food products has decreased by 11.36 percent, which was 14.10 percent in the previous month.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released this information on inflation on Sunday (September 8).

According to BBS data, non-food inflation was 9.74 percent in August, compared to 9.68 percent in July. Inflation at the rural level on a simple point-to-point basis was 10.95 percent in August, compared to 11.89 percent in July.

And at the city level, inflation on a point-to-point basis stood at 10.01 percent, which was 11.27 percent in July.

The Interim government that came to power on August 8 has prioritized tackling inflation. The students started monitoring raw markets in the capital from August 9 to keep product prices under control.

The Commerce Ministry asked the National Board of Revenue (NBR) on September 1 to withdraw import duty on onions, potatoes and eggs to keep prices of the commodity stable in the market due to disruption of production due to the ongoing flood situation.
