Al Jazeera journalist arrested by Israeli forces
Israeli forces arrested Al Jazeera's Arabic correspondent Ismail Al-Ghoul from Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, Palestine. Israeli forces have been accused of severely beating the journalist after his arrest.
Al-Ghoul was there on Monday (March 18) morning with his colleagues and other journalists to cover the Israeli army's fourth raid on the hospital, which has trapped thousands of civilians, including medical workers, patients and displaced families.
Witnesses said the Al Jazeera reporter was dragged away by Israeli forces. They also destroyed the medical center's news broadcasting vehicle.
According to a report from Al Jazeera journalist Hani Mahmoud Rafah, al-Ghoul was "tortured, beaten and detained by the Israeli military along with his accomplices.
Many Palestinians were beaten and verbally abused, with some blindfolded and their hands tied behind their backs, Mahmoud said, citing eyewitnesses. They were then placed inside an Israeli military truck and taken to an undisclosed location.
Gaza's health ministry said Israeli forces fired missiles and fired at a hospital building, killing and wounding Palestinians and bulldozing part of the hospital's courtyard.
According to Mahmoud, Israeli forces arrested more than 80 Palestinians that day, including female medical workers and journalists.
