The US continues to pressurize for a cease-fire in Gaza
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the US is continuing to pressurize for a ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The US Secretary of State said this in a press conference on Thursday (March 21). On this day, the US Secretary of State met the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman, and the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, in Cairo. In the meeting, the US Secretary of State said that he is continuing to press for an agreement in Doha. But reaching an agreement remains a difficult task. But I believe it is possible.
He said the US continued to push for an agreement on the release of hostages and an Israeli ceasefire with Hamas in Gaza amid ongoing talks in Doha, Qatar.
Blinken said it is difficult to reach an agreement, but I believe it is possible. He also said Israel must do more to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza.
He said, we are trying to close the gaps in the agreement. All I can say is that we are committed to doing everything possible to reach an agreement.
A statement from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Israel's Mossad chief David Barnia will travel to Qatar on Friday to meet with mediators, Reuters reported.
Meanwhile, Israel continues to bombard Rafa despite talks on the US ceasefire proposal. 70 people were killed in the Israeli attack last night. In total, the number of people killed in Israel's attack is 31988.
Earlier, Algeria proposed an immediate ceasefire in the UN Security Council. But the United States immediately objected to the term. They vetoed it. The new version promoted by the US says an immediate and sustainable ceasefire is needed to protect civilians and allow humanitarian aid to reach Gaza. No date for voting has been fixed yet.
