No innocent one is being arrested: Home Minister
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that no innocent person is being arrested.
He informed the journalists after the meeting with seven ministers-state ministers, four secretaries and top officials of the law and order forces in the meeting room of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Tuesday (July 30) evening.
Asaduzzaman Khan rejected the allegations of mass arrests based on the movement and said that no innocent person is being arrested. By analyzing specific information and video footage, those involved in the violence are being arrested. If someone is innocent, he is released.
Expressing sorrow for the victims of the violence, the Home Minister said that we have received the information of 150 victims so far. It includes police, journalists, political activists, pedestrians and some students. We are sorry for everyone. Mourning Day has been observed across the country today in their memory. We expressed condolences to the families of the victims in all these incidents of loss of life. We have accepted all the demands of the students. We hope they will return to campus.
He said, there was a long discussion about who did the movement, who used the students. When the students started this movement we all thought it was a nonviolent movement. We have always been sympathetic to their demands. The quota was abolished in 2018 itself.
Earlier, in the afternoon, seven ministers-state ministers, four secretaries and the heads of the law and order forces sat for a discussion to decide on some important issues including the overall law and order situation of the country, curfew, ban on Jamaat-Shibir politics, ongoing quota reform movement.
The meeting was attended by Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, State Minister for Labor and Employment Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Law Minister Anisul Haque, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Junaid Ahmed Palak and State Minister for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat.
Besides, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, RAB, BGB and Ansar chiefs along with important officials of the Ministry of Interior were also present in the meeting. #
