Two Al Jazeera journalists were killed in an Israeli airstrike
Al Jazeera Arabic journalist Ismail al-Ghoul and his cameraman Rami al-Rifi were killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip. The incident took place in Al Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City on Wednesday (July 31).
According to the report of the media, the two journalists who were killed were working for Al Jazeera Arabic. The two slain journalists went to the family home of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya, who was killed early Wednesday morning. There, Haniya published the news from the side of the destroyed house. Then when they were returning, their car was targeted by airstrikes.
It is learned that they last contacted their news desk 15 minutes before the attack. While on the phone they reported an attack on a house near where they were reporting. At that time they were asked to leave immediately. Israeli forces targeted their car while they were on their way to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital.
Israeli media The Times of Israel reported that the Israeli Defense Forces declined to comment on the attack. Of course, Israel has been denying targeting journalists in the war since last October.
Meanwhile, Gaza's official media office condemned the killing of two Al Jazeera journalists. At the same time, noting that Israel has killed more than 165 Palestinian journalists since October 7, they said in a statement, 'We condemn the targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists and hold Israel responsible for this heinous crime. We call on the international community and media groups to pressure Israel to end these continuing violations.'
