Thirteen rape incidents in a single day in Bangladesh!
An average of 13 rapes take place every day in Bangladesh ', the statistics show. People are extremely worried and angry when they see the prevalence and epidemic of rape.
Rape is a form of sexual assault. Generally, rape is defined as the act of having sexual intercourse or any other form of sexual intercourse with a person without their consent. It is not wrong to say that such atrocities of perverted festivals are going on in Bangladesh now unabated.
Rape can be committed through the use of physical force, other forms of coercion or abuse of power. The term 'sexual assault' is also sometimes used as a synonym for the word 'rape', which refers to having sex with a person who is unable to give permission (such as an unconscious, handicapped, mentally handicapped or a minor).
Researchers claim that the prevalence of rape usually increases in war situations. There have been reports of many barbaric incidents of murder as well as rape in World War II and other wars. Violence against women is carried out from the violence against the opponents. But the whole society is terrified, angry and protesting seeing the prevalence of rape, gang rape, murder after rape etc. under normal circumstances.
In Bangladesh, 950 women were raped from June to September, despite the corona crisis in 2020. Of these, 207 women have been killed after gang rape. In the last two months (August-September), 230 rapes have been recorded.
Bangladesh Mahilla Parishad has presented a picture of the last 29 days. It can be seen that the incidents of rape are taking place most of the time. Moreover, 943 incidents of rape were recorded in 2018 while 1513 incidents were registered with the police in 2019.
As soon as the sensational rape incident of Sylhet MC College yet to fade, a 37-year-old woman of Begumganj of Noakhali created uproar across the country when the victim was stripped naked and brutally tortured for not matching the shocking crime of gang-rape with a housewife. As a result, a wave of protests has spread across the country. There has been an angry reaction in the society. Thousands of women have joined a unique protest on social media. They covered their profile picture with black saying we live in a society where women have no dignity. They are not considered human beings. Outside the virtual forum, the Shahbagh area of Dhaka was also abuzz with protests. Progressive student alliances, some leftist groups staged protest rallies and were stopped by the police. At one point they were beaten causing injury to 7.
Amnesty International has condemned the widespread spread of rape across the country, as have various social organizations and human rights organizations in Bangladesh. Experts said strict action is needed on an urgent basis to prevent rape. If necessary, the existing law must be reformed. And to protect the victims, the government must provide legal aid and security, so that the perpetrators cannot influence the course of action to get acquittal.
