President Abdul Hamid said, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not just a name. Bangabandhu is an institution, an entity, a history. Bangabandhu is as strong as the living Bangabandhu. As long as there is Bangladesh, there will be Bengalis, there will be the people of this country, Bangabandhu will be the source of inspiration for all. He has enlightened the world by being a beacon of liberation for oppressed people. Therefore, everyone must be enterprising so that our future generation can be inspired by Bangabandhu's principles, ideals and the spirit of the liberation war.

The President said this while addressing a special session of Jatiyo Sangsad on the occasion of Mujib Year on Monday (November 9). Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury presided over the session and the President started his speech at 6:35 evening.

"We have to protect the freedom we have snatched from the Pakistani aggressors in exchange for a sea of blood," he said. The benefits of freedom must be passed on to every household. Unity is the biggest need to implement Bangabandhu's promise to build 'Golden Bengal', the unity of the people, especially the pro-liberation forces. The unity that united us in the war must be built against communalism, dictatorship, intolerance and violence. To institutionalize democracy, political parties need to build a culture of tolerance and mutual respect. Those who want to disrupt the peace and progress of the country by misleading the open-minded people of the country by making fictional stories and situations by denying the real, must be motivated in the spirit of ‘71 and build resistance. Only then will the golden Bengal of Bangabandhu's dream be established, the celebration of Bangabandhu's birth centenary will be success

He said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a man with a big heart. He used to dream for himself and show dreams to people. His confidence, love and trust towards the people of the country were immense. By sacrificing his life, he has reciprocated the love of the people of Bengal. He has indebted the Bengali nation. The decision to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu from 17 March 2020 to 16 March 2021 as Mujib Year is very significant. Through the celebration of Mujib Year, Bangabandhu's life-work, thoughts-consciousness and philosophy should be spread to the young generation all over the world including Bangladesh. Bangabandhu's life and political philosophy for the liberation of the freedom-loving people of the world will be fully relevant, modern and up-to-date in the 21st century and will remain immortal in the future as well. The celebration of Mujib Year is an appropriate step to spread the meaning of Bangabandhu's life thought and political philosophy. The ‘Asamapta Atmajiboni’ of Bangabandhu, the Kargarer Rojnamcha, the autobiographical book 'Amar Dekha Naya Chin' published by the Prime Minister have created immense opportunity for the new generation at home and abroad to know about the life and works of Bangabandhu. I hope that the country's eminent politicians, historians, academics, researchers and journalists will make an important contribution to spreading Bangabandhu's life, work and ideals worldwide.

The President said there is no chance to see Bangabandhu and Bangladesh separately. If you want to know Bangladesh, you have to know about the liberation struggle and liberation war of Bengalis, you have to know Bangabandhu. Those who have tried to look at these two entities separately have failed. The biggest proof of today's reality. Let the nation move forward on the path of building a prosperous Bangladesh free from hunger and poverty by embracing the spirit of the war of liberation and the ideals of the Father of the Nation.

Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said in the definition of 'relative' in the upazila elections, 'What is the family formula - one's son, daughter and wife! There is no family outside of this! We want the election to be free of influence! People can vote freely!

The Prime Minister said all this in response to a question at a press conference after her visit to Thailand at the Prime Minister's official residence, Ganabhaban, on Thursday (May 2) at 11:30 am.

The Prime Minister said that many of the families of Awami League had already been elected in one place for a long time. The one who became an MP, may have been the union or upazila chairman's wife long before him. But it's right, in one place he gave his wife, in another place he gave his son, that's not right! Activists should also be evaluated. I will take everything myself, I will not keep anything for my leaders and workers, that is not possible!

She said, everyone is contesting in the election, it means making the election meaningful.

Referring to the boycott of some parties, Sheikh Hasina said that many political parties are boycotting the elections. Why reject! Because they are not able to choose. If you want to do 'Parliament Election', you have to show the people who will be the next leader or Prime Minister! If you don't have a suitable leader, then you have to find someone. I did not make an election, that's the reality! That is what is happening in our country! If the accused is shown to the people, the people will not accept it. If you want to do politics, you have to take risks!

The Awami League president said, "After '75, I was not allowed to come to the country. Rehana did not even get a passport! The war criminals who were tried by the Father of the Nation, the convicted convicts who were released and allowed to do politics, are the ministers, advisors, in power. Murderers in power! I returned to the country in that state. My life was in danger. I got hit again and again but I survived. This is the problem of many. Why did I survive after trying to kill so many times!

Commenting that there has been 'development' because Awami League has come to power, she added that Bengalis have been given the opportunity to stand tall or speak in the world. Earlier, when I heard the name, I used to say 'poor', 'beggar caste', whether I was able to get rid of that bad name or not, that is the big thing!

The Prime Minister said that elections are being held in many other countries. We will see how the people there vote. We will see that too. Our effort is to make the process more public and transparent!

We have constituted the Election Commission by making law for the first time. Financially it was dependent on the Prime Minister's Office. I made it autonomous from there. I have made a separate budget.
