A new primary school is set to be established at Maizpara village of Haildhar union under Anwara upazilla of Chittagong. This is going to be a philanthropic venture by Mr Aziz Ahmad, a Bangladeshi American who is keen to establish the school by the name of his late father Ayub Ahmad, who was a brave freedom fighter and served as a primary teacher before he died in mid 1970s.

Mr. Bashir Ahmed Chowdhury, a local opinion leader and former chairman of Haildhar Union Parishad inaugurated a ground breaking ceremony.

Children of the area have to travel quite a long distance to attend school, so this proposed school is going to be a blessing for them, Mr Bashir Ahmed opined while talking at the inaugural.

Aziz Ahmad was expressing all his excitements about the school initiative which he is going to fund by himself. He mentioned about the call from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina saying, it is the rich people in the society who should come forward to enhance the educational endeavors.

‘I feel overwhelmed to do something for my country and especially for my village,’ Mr Ahmad said.

Mr. Md. Abdul Karim, Former Principal Secretary, Bangladesh Government, Major Gen. ATM Abdul Wahab, Former MP and Chairman, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, Mr. Nazrul Islam Khan, Former Education Secretary and Curator, Bangabondhu Museum and Professor Pradip Kumar Chakraborty, Chairman, Chattagram Education Board joined virtually to grace the program.

All of them praised Aziz Ahmad for taking such a noble philanthropic initiative for the children of the village he himself hails from.

Md. Nazim Uddin, UP chairman of Haildhar was also present along with other senior people of the community. They also lauded the endeavor taken by Mr Aziz Ahmad and his family.
A primary school for the children in this locality had long been a desire of everyone, which is now going to be fulfilled, Md. Nazim Uddin said.

Aziz Ahmad is the founder and chief executive of UTC Associates, a USA based IT software engineering company. In Bangladesh he has founded an ICT training based benefit company named CodersTrust Bangladesh. It is considered as one of the major non-government initiatives to develop an IT knowledge-based young generation in the country.

The present initiative will add a new feather in his philanthropic contributions to the nation, speakers said.
The country has given me a lot, now it is time to pay the country back, a humble Aziz Ahmed was saying. I have a dream to establish an educational complex in this locality in future, he added.

My father was an elementary school teacher and he fought for the independence of the country. He wanted to contribute to the newly built country by giving education to the children. But due to his untimely demise at youth he could not do that. Our family wants to establish this school to fulfill that dreams of late Ayub Ahmad, said Mr. Aziz.

SM Saifur Rahman, elder brother of Aziz Ahmad, recalled their early age memory and shared that their four-fathers were also keen about spreading education in the society. Their grand grandfather ran a Maktab (religion-based small education center) in this locality and now they want to stimulate that old endeavor through this school.

Syed Moktar Ahmed, another cousin brother of Mr Ahmad was telling about the family’s tradition in contributing to the education and learning.

Local people who joined the program used lots of praising words about this philanthropic endeavor. This school will fulfill the desire of general people of the village, Selim Uddin Ansari wrote in a facebook post. A K Shajahan mentioned that a school in this area had been a long-last desire of the locals. Manzur Al Haq said that he was ready to extend all cooperation to make the school programme a success. Anisul Islam Mahmud wrote that the future generation will gratefully remember about this contribution to education from Aziz Ahmad and his family.

Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, BNP's predicament is how to come to power by enslaving foreign masters.

He made this comment in response to questions from reporters after paying tribute to Sher-e- Bangla AK Fazlul Haque's mausoleum at the historical Shaheed Suhrawardy Udyan at 8 am on Saturday (April 27).

Obaidul Quader said, BNP is enslaved to get power, to stay in power. They do not consider public support as a key issue. Slavery to foreign masters leads to power. Their dilemma is still how to go to power by enslaving foreign masters.

Mentioning that he does not consider BNP as a democratic party, he said, there is no precedent for establishing democracy in their history. They have killed democracy, turned it into a farce. They never obeyed the democratic rules even within the party. They talk big, when they do the party council? Where did they party council? 7-8 years ago there was a meeting at the Le Meridien Central Committee. Jambu Jam style Committee of 501 people. Those who do not have democracy at home cannot establish democracy in the country.

Obaidul Quader said, national leader Sher-e- Bangla was one of the people who took politics to common people in this country. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman inspired the common people with the mantra of freedom. The farmers of rural Bengal will never forget Shere-e- Bangla. He will forever be remembered among them. He protected usurer moneylenders from tyranny by setting up State and Debt Arbitration(Rin Shalishi Boeard) Board. He is still remembered for that.

Commenting on today's pledge to fulfill their dreams, he said, today our pledge is to form Bangabandhu, Suhrawardy, Maulana Bhasani, Sher-e- Bangla AK Fazlul Haq non-sectarian Bangladesh. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, we are fighting to build a humane and non-communal Bangladesh. That is the dream of Sher-e- Bangla AK Fazlul Haque and that is our pledge today.
