The Bangladesh Awami League has been hit repeatedly. Commenting on the attempt to dismantle the organization, Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "Awami League, this organization has risen from the dust and people." It is not a hand-picked organization. An organization that is formed with the goal of establishing human rights cannot be destroyed so easily, it may cause temporary injury. The Awami League has been hit many times. The people inside the Awami League have tried to harm the Awami League.

The Prime Minister said this while virtually joining the party's founding anniversary discussion meeting at the party's central office at 23, Bangabandhu Avenue on Wednesday (June 23).

The Awami League president said the organization was formed to protest the injustice of the Muslim League government. The organization that is formed with the goal of establishing human rights cannot be destroyed so easily.

He said that Maulana Bhasani was the founding president of the Awami League, he was the first to break the Awami League and form the National Awami Party. This is exactly how many times the Awami League has broken up.

Awami League President Sheikh Hasina said, "When I was elected president in 1981 to keep the Awami League united." It is unfortunate that I have been in exile for whom I have collaborated for most of the organizations, when I came back he left me, our Abdur Razzak Saheb left the Awami League. I told him again and again that you don't have to go, you stay. He was the secretary of the party. No, he broke up the party and formed BAKSAL. Then again, Dr. Kamal Hossain whom we nominated as President. His name was called. I promoted him to international fame. In fact, what is the international reputation? He was just a minister in Bangabandhu's cabinet. We picked him up through our promotion. Who could not speak Bengali well. He left the party in 1991. He tried to make another party. At first he tried to form an Awami League but failed and then he left for the Gono Forum.

He said the Awami League has been hit repeatedly in this way. But I would say Awami League is a piece of diamond. The more attempts have been made to break it, the more manpower has increased, the more new light has spread. So no matter how hard you try to destroy this organization, you can't.

He said that an attempt has been made to remove the name of Awami League from this country. When the Awami League was formed, attempts were made to destroy the Muslim League. When Ayub Khan came to power, he also tried to destroy the Awami League. Yahya Khan also tried to destroy the Awami League, because the genocide that he did then in 1971 was the real target of the Awami League leaders and workers. Just when Ziaur Rahman came to power, he also tried to destroy the Awami League. General Ershad has followed his footsteps. And Khaleda Zia came one step further.

She said that if we take a look, we can see how many people they killed in 1991-96 and 2001-2006. Their goal is to finish the Awami League. Again, when the state of emergency was declared, I was the first to be arrested. In other words, the aggression of the Awami League. Why? That is why the Awami League has brought independence?

She said if the Awami League is in power, the poor and miserable people of this country get rice in their stomachs, they get shelter, they get houses, they get medical treatment, they get opportunities to read and write. Whenever the Awami League has run the state, the fate of these deprived people has changed. If it can be considered as a political occupation, yes, there are some left parties, there are some right-wing parties, but as a true people's party, if there is any party in Bangladesh, it is the only party, Bangladesh Awami League.

Sheikh Hasina said, many of us have said many things. But when they do not realize this thing? What to do? Because when an unusual situation arises in this country, when an apolitical or undemocratic unconstitutional government comes to Bangladesh, their value increases a little. Some sit with flags. That is why the fate of the people of this country could not be changed. They trample on power. If the Awami League is in power, it does what it does for the people. Awami League is a people's party.

The Awami League president said that after the assassination of the Father of the Nation on August 15, 1975, the provisions of the constitution were no longer followed. What will follow is that by violating the constitution, they have seized power and rushed to retain power, not for the welfare of the people. They have created a group of flatterers, they have created a party of flatterers and they do not run the state with them.

The history of this country is very sad. There have been repeated Military Coup d'etats since ’75. The biggest loss has been to the Bangladesh Armed Forces. How many soldiers have had to give their lives? And the political leaders of Bangladesh have suffered. How many lives have been given, one coup d'etat after another and killing people. From that place, we have had to overcome many obstacles step by step to maintain the democratic trend for a long time. I have seen living people being killed by arson and terror, and burnt to death. Creating militancy in the name of religion, killing innocent people, they have tried in many ways to destabilize the country.

Thanking the leaders and workers of the Awami League main party, she said, "Every one of our leaders and workers has always stood by the people by risking their lives for the work we have called for. They protected the lives and property of the people. They are following that ideal. That is the biggest thing. The history of independence of this country is connected with the history of Awami League. The cultural liberation of the country, social security, social achievement as well as economic achievement is the achievement of the powerful organization Awami League behind everything. If the party is not strong then nothing can be done. And that cannot be implemented. Not only with the government, but also with strong organizations behind it. Any achievement is possible if there is a strong organization on the side of the government. I have been able to achieve as much as I have achieved today because this well-organized Awami League was by my side. Today we are recognized as a developing country. We have to move forward.

She said the Awami League has an idealogy. We follow the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. We set goals before we do anything. No other political party has such a goal, no thought. We have economic policies, we have manifestos, we organize by abiding by them, we abide by them, when we come to power, we have made plans and implemented them by thinking about what was in our economic policy, the people of the country. It has become easier to implement because we have thought and planned from the beginning. For which Bangladesh has become a developing country in such a short time. Until 75, the Father of the Nation had achieved and left the least developed country. Then after '75 those who were in power for about 29 years but they could not give anything. We have given that whenever Awami League came, people got something in this country.

The government will adjust electricity prices four times a year to reduce subsidies. It will be gradually extended for the next three years.

The government's power division said this in a meeting with the IMF delegation at the secretariat on Thursday (May 2).

According to the sources of the meeting, the price of fuel oil may increase again this month. It will automatically increase the price in coordination with the global market. However, if the global market decreases, it will also decrease here. A directive has been issued in this regard on Thursday.

Stating that the price of electricity is being increased mainly in the name of adjustment, experts say that the government can also adjust the subsidy by reducing the cost. The government is not focused on reducing the cost of electricity production by curbing irregularities, corruption and wastage. Rather, even if there is no demand, they are increasing the cost of this sector by building one power plant after another without bidding.

The IMF delegation also held a meeting with the Division of Energy and Mineral Resources, Petrobangla, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) on Thursday. According to the sources of the meeting, Petrobangla and BPC have told the IMF in almost the same way that there is no pressure for new subsidies on gas and fuel oil. The IMF said to introduce the automatic method of oil prices (increases in the international market, increases in the country, decreases if it decreases), it has been done. Fuel oil prices are adjusted every month. It will never have to subsidize fuel again. In the first two rounds, the prices were slightly reduced, but in the last round, the prices increased. This is being practiced for three months.

In this regard, the State Minister for Power Nasrul Hamid said that this year the price of electricity will be adjusted several more times. This will continue for the next three years. However, in which month the adjustment will be made is yet to be decided.

Regarding the price of fuel oil, he said, adjustment will be made from the first week of March. But it seems to me that even if the adjustment is made, the price of fuel oil will not increase much. But if it changes it will depend on the global market.

It is known that since the Awami League government came to power in 2009, the price of electricity has increased 13 times.

In last April, the income from the export of goods from the country was 3 thousand 916.99 million US dollars. This export is 0.99 percent less than the same period last year.

This information is learned from the updated statistics published by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).

The Ministry of Commerce set an export target of 471 dollars in April, falling short by 16.78 percent.

In the first 10 months of the current fiscal year 2023-24, there has been an increase of 3.93 percent in the export of goods compared to the same period of the previous year, during which the total export value was 4 thousand 747 million dollars. It was Tk. 4,568 crore during the same period last year, which was 6.87 percent less than the target of 5,970 crore dollars.

Export-oriented industry experts said that during Eid-ul-Fitr, the factories received less work orders. The number of export shipments also decreased due to prolonged holidays. Due to this, the export of goods is going down, but the businessmen mentioned it as a normal phenomenon in Bangladesh.

Now the duty-free market facility in commodity exports is helping to keep Bangladesh competitive. However, in 2026, if it leaves the list of least developed countries (LDC) and becomes a developing country, that advantage will no longer exist. According to the joint declaration of the 13th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), the concerned countries will enjoy tariff-free market facilities for three years even after transition from LDCs. This facility will be determined on the basis of negotiation between the importing and exporting countries.

Economists said that the facilities we get as LDCs will not exist in the future. Then new strategies or initiatives will be needed to increase exports. Diversification of goods and services and increased investment are needed to increase domestic export capacity. On the other hand, the political consent of the government will be needed to enter into trade agreements with various countries.
